What an incredible school year my son has had! In two years, he has made leaps and bounds in learning 'social skills'. Combined with the jump start on the academic education he received from that first decade of Home-Schooling, he has been awarded the honor of being his school's 'Student of the Year for 2011'!
And this was an honor that HE earned. He is an inspiration to his fellow students, his educators, other parents, and most of all, to me! Knowing that even though he is not communicating in a typical fashion, his mind can still grow, explore, learn, thrill and seek is like a balm to my heart. It simply would not have been possible, I don't believe, if he hadn't been taught to read. And then shown, by example, that reading was a good and beneficial ability. I do not take the credit alone for this. It is by the Grace of God that he is excelling!
